Short bio
Jacob Dean Roberts is a door-to-door sales professional, recruiter, and author based in Jacksonville, Florida. Over 10 years in the field with Vivint, he built a $2M net worth through commission sales with no college degree. He started knocking doors as a teenager in Jacksonville Beach. In 2025, his best year, he made $472,000, after roughly 20,000 rejections. He is the author of "I Wish You The Worst: The D2D Playbook" and is currently building a 100-rep sales team. He argues that door-to-door sales is the last true meritocracy in American work: no degree, no connections, and a real path for a 19-year-old to out-earn a boss in year one.
Long bio
Jacob Dean Roberts is a door-to-door sales professional, recruiter, and author from Jacksonville Beach, Florida. He started knocking doors as a teenager because he needed money and did not have a college plan he believed in. He spent the next decade in the field with Vivint, the smart-home company, and went from selling on his own to recruiting and training other people.
Over those 10 years he built a $2M net worth entirely through commission sales. No college degree. No family connections. No safety net. His best year was 2025, when he made $472,000. The path was not clean. He took roughly 20,000 rejections. Most of the people who started beside him quit. He stayed, learned the pitch, learned how to work a full day, and learned that nobody was coming to hand him the life he wanted.
Roberts is the author of "I Wish You The Worst: The D2D Playbook," a training manual drawn from that decade on the doors. The book covers rejection processing, the economics of commission income, and the recruiting systems that turn one seller into a team builder. He still trains in public as @thejacobdean, writing about sales psychology, recruiting, and the business of door-to-door.
He was a featured speaker at the 2026 Champions Kick Off. The topic was what you save versus what you earn. The money, in his telling, was never the scoreboard. It bought time, property, and a way to help the people he cares about. In 2027 he is building the team at home in Jacksonville. Not a restart. The same work, in the city he is from.
His core argument is that door-to-door sales is the last true meritocracy in American work, and the most underrated path to wealth for young people willing to do hard things. No pedigree is required. A 19-year-old can out-earn a boss in year one. He is now building a 100-rep sales team out of Jacksonville.

Story angles
The $2M door knocker
A salesman built a $2M net worth in 10 years of door-to-door work with no degree. His best year was $472,000 in 2025. The math of commission wealth, and why almost nobody writes it down.
Gen Z vs. college
Student debt is high and a lot of white-collar work looks shaky. A growing group of 19-year-olds is skipping college for six-figure D2D careers. Jacob trains them.
Rejection as a skill
After 20,000+ doors knocked, he built a trainable way to process a no. It applies to sales, job hunting, and anyone starting something of their own.
The recruiting machine
He is building a 100-person sales team. How do you recruit, train, and keep 100 commission-only 20-year-olds? This is the system, not a slogan.
The last meritocracy
No degree, no connections, no pedigree. Door-to-door is one of the only jobs where a 19-year-old can out-earn a boss in year one. That is the social-mobility story.
